ABOUT THE ART

BEACONS OF LIGHT

This art gallery has been created by the artists of our Visual Artists Community. This community was formed of a few talented artists all based in Mumbai Metropolitan Region with the intention of holding an Art Exhibition during the Easter season this year.

Covid-19 came along at the time of our first planned meet up so we decided to meet online. That first gathering turned into a regular meeting. We share our stories, learn and discuss new ideas around art and God and our purpose as artists.

The natural next step for the community was to work on a join art project. So, Beacons of Light was born. This is the first time we are trying an Online Art Gallery. After agreeing the theme of the exhibition, each Artist worked on their own ideas and interpretations and discussed their creative process with the group, hearing feedback and refining their ideas. It's been a truly wonderful experience.

Our hope is that you will not only enjoy the art, but also experience the sense of hope each Artist has tried to convey in their art works. We invite you to join us for teh Online Q&A sessions with the artists metioned below and we hope you will explore more about the artists here through this page.

TO THE LIGHT

mixed media on watercolour paper by Daniel Luis

There is something magical about how life can be found in the most unlikely places. Even in a place seemingly devoid of life, the light reaches through the darkness and provides hope. The painting depicts a plant growing in darkness, yet reaching out to the source of light. A faint ray, providing nourishment and hope.

HOPE DIARY

Mixed media on handmade paper by Etienne Coutinho

This painting was conceived when I experienced the darkness and dystopia

of this present time, acutely. The rough, endless, unbroken walls of nothingness.

But my hands, they feel the pigments, knife, pallet and solvent

and scratchings on walls …and then, words like flashes,

The word, of hope, takes flesh and form, yielding sight.

TRANS-FORMATION

stop animation with typography by Joseph D'Souza

TRANS-formations began as a typographic concept using the words which have been resounding around us during the pandemic. Words of darkness and fear. The idea developed with the thought of replacing those dark, fearful words with words of light and hope.
